Ms DOS

They say that, with children, it doesn't get "easier", it just gets "different". Well, I'm not so sure. I have four grown-up "children" - they're are all successfully following their dreams, and I couldn't be happier!

So, I hope that Emma doesn't mind if I share this story from the mid 1990's, when her age was in single digits.

You may or may not remember, but even after the advent of Windows, a lot of kids' computer games were still DOS - based.

Here's the story.

Emma and I are in the family room. She's pounding away on the PC, and turns to me and asks, "Who is this woman who makes all of these great computer games?"

My reaction: "Huh?"

Emma: "She must be really smart - she's made so many games."

Me: "Who are you talking about?"

Emma: "Ms. DOS."

I swear, I've never heard anyone else interpret "MS DOS" in that way!

Out of the mouths of babes............

  1. Ha! I was a little kid in the late 80s, and we had a computer with the Digital Research version of DOS, DR-DOS. I thought something similar about the doctor who was giving us these great games, Dr. Dos.
